DESCRIPTION:The Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Arts Society (NLFAS) is thrilled to announce “Friends of the Festival” – a fundraising concert! \nHitting the stage with songs and tunes to bring the house down are: Jim Payne & Fergus O’Byrne\, Sandy Morris & Anita Best\, Matthew Byrne\, Zaynab Wilson\, Rube & Rake\, Sherman Downey\, plus original members of legendary Figgy Duff – Pamela Morgan\, Kelly Russell & Dave Panting. \nJean Hewson\, Interim Board President says\, “The Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Arts Society has been part of the cultural fabric of this province for decades\, and this concert is a chance for the community to come together and support its future. On June 7\, some of Newfoundland and Labrador’s finest artists are lending their talents to support the future of folk arts in this province. Every ticket purchased and every donation made against our debt will help rebuild the festival\, the programs\, and the spaces where our traditions\, stories\, and music can thrive. We hope people will come out\, bring a friend\, and be part of what comes next. We’re incredibly grateful to the artists and community members who continue to stand with us. We look forward to seeing you there!” \nDoors will open at 6 PM with the show starting at 7 PM. \nTickets are $50.00 plus HST and fees per person. 19+ event

SUMMARY:Folk Night at The Ship
DESCRIPTION:Presented by the Newfoundland & Labrador Folk Arts Society\, Folk Night at the Ship is St. John’s longest continually running live music event (it started in 1976!) and regularly draws a sizeable crowd each Wednesday night; sometimes 100 souls and rarely less than 50. The music ranges from solo songwriters\, traditional Newfoundland\, blues\, klezmer and all styles in between. \nThere are often special events such as the Folk Festival Launch\, themed evenings\, open mike nights and one Wednesday of every month is reserved for a traditional tune session that often has 20 or more players in attendance. \nAnd if that isn’t enough\, we often have door prizes in the form of gift certificates from our sponsors plus various CDS\, artist merch and concert tickets from time to time. \nFolk Night starts at 9 p.m. (yes\, it really does!) and cover is $10 most nights with the exception of tune sessions and certain special events.
