The City’s new Landmark Sign will be installed on a temporary basis next to the Mary Brown’s Centre on New Gower Street this week. Residents are encouraged to check it out and then provide their feedback on where its permanent home should be.

A permanent location must meet several criteria, including: being on City-owned land, providing safe and accessible pedestrian access, offering space for gathering, ensuring visibility, and supporting safe interaction with the sign.

Locations such as Signal Hill, Southside Hills, Quidi Vidi Village, Harbourside Park and Cape Spear cannot be considered due to land ownership, operational, accessibility, and/or environmental constraints. For example, the sign is too small to be seen from Southside Hills and Harbourside Park would create challenges for programming space and is not City-owned land.

Check out the details on the project page and leave your feedback by Sept. 18, 2026 by taking the survey or using the mapping tool to show us where it should go. Alternatively, you can email engage@stjohns.ca or call 311 and ask to speak to member of the project team.
