Please save the dates for the upcoming City of St. John’s Downtown Summit — an event focused on shaping a vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable future for downtown St. John’s.
Dates: April 29 & 30, 2025
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. each day
Location: St. John’s Convention Centre
This summit will bring together downtown businesses, operators, community leaders, industry associations, and other key stakeholders to explore opportunities to enhance the downtown experience and position downtown St. John’s as a viable centre of activity and a shared community value.

The summit will conclude with a networking lunch at 12:00 p.m. on April 30.

The votes piled in and the 2025 Downtown St. John’s Burger Battle Champions for 2025 is The One Eared Goat! Anderson’s Burger Shack took home second place with Bannerman Brewing Co. joining them on the Burger Battle podium in third place. Robert Shawn – The Burger Master’s Favorite award went to Anderson’s Burger Shack! Congrats to all the winners and hats off to the 44 awesome Downtown St. John’s Business Commission restaurants that participated! We can’t wait for next March!!!
Thrive’s Downtown Street Outreach Program has been in place since securing funding through the City of St. John’s in April 2024.
The program consists of having 2 full-time outreach workers walking through the downtown, engaging and building relationships with street-involved people. The walks generally take place from 10am – 12pm and 1pm – 3pm, Mondays through Thursdays, with a walk from 2pm – 4pm on Fridays. We also have a volunteer led walk from 5:30pm to 7:30pm on Thursday evenings.
During these walks, the outreach workers are offering survival supplies to the participants we encounter, safely disposing of discarded needles, as well as checking in with businesses in the downtown core to educate about our services and offer naloxone training. The team can also respond if there are situations that arise that could benefit from de-escalation and the provision of supports. The contact number to reach the outreach team is 709-351-1070.
As part of the Downtown Street Outreach program, Thrive is conducting a survey with business owners, commercial property owners and employees in the Downtown St. John’s Business Commission area about the program to date. This information will be used to help Thrive the program over the next several months.
