Purpose:

Downtown St. John’s is working toward becoming a more sustainable, resilient and vibrant urban core.

This survey gathers input from downtown businesses and property owners to understand their current sustainability practices, challenges and priorities for future improvements – such as green streets, building retrofits, transit and mobility upgrades, public realm beautification and climate resilience.

Your responses will directly inform upcoming programs and investments that support both business growth and environmental quality in the downtown.

Downtown Snow Removal – Thursday, February 5, 2026

Motorists are advised that snow removal and/or street widening operations are scheduled from Thursday, February 5 2026 at 11:00 pm until Friday, February 6 2026 at 6:00 am, and vehicles must be removed during snow removal operations. To avoid being ticketed or towed, vehicles should be moved from the following 17 streets before the operations begin.

The streets highlighted below are streets within the Downtown St. John’s Business Commission Area:

1. Casey St (Lemarchant Rd to Barter’s Hill)
2. Cavendish Sq (King’s Bridge Rd to Duckworth St)
3. Cochrane St (Duckworth St to Water St)
4. Craigmillar Ave (Cornwall Ave to Topsail Rd)
5. Duckworth St (Quidi Vidi Rd to Prescott St)
6. Harvey Rd (Parade St to Bonaventure Ave)
7. Hill O’chips (Duckworth St to Water St)
8. Holloway St (Gower St to Water St)
9. Mayor Ave (Freshwater Rd to Bonaventure Ave)
10. Military Rd (Bonaventure Ave to Cavendish Sq)
11. Ordnance St (Gower St to Duckworth St)
12. Pennywell Rd (Ropewalk Lane to Cookstown Rd)
13. Prospect St (King’s Rd to Holloway St)
14. St. Clare Ave (Campbell Ave to Lemarchant Rd)
15. St. John’s Lane (Water St to Duckworth St)
16. Temperance St (Duckworth St to Water St)
17. Water St (Temperance St to Prescott St)

Vehicles impeding the snow removal operation will be removed and impounded at the owner’s expense. The towing and administration fee is $250, and the impounding fee is $25 each day the vehicle is held in storage. If proof of registration and insurance is not provided, the vehicle can only be towed (not driven) from the impound lot.

6. Duckworth St (Prescott St to Queen’s Rd)
7. George St (Queen St to Water St)
8. Mcbride’s Hill (Duckworth St to Water St)
9. New Gower St (Barter’s Hill to Duckworth St)
