What is Chillfest?

The City of St. John’s ChillFest is an annual community-wide celebration of winter, with a variety of free activities for all ages and abilities. Chillfest 2026 will take place February 12 to 16. 

Chillfest Mitten Downtown Scavenger Hunt

The City is inviting residents to stroll around downtown and search for our over-sized red ChillFest mittens in storefront window displays from Thursday, Feb 12 – Monday, Feb 16. Participants guess how many mittens are hidden throughout downtown & submit their answer for a chance to win a ChillFest prize Pack.

The City will provide participating businesses with cutouts (or window clings) of special red mittens to place in their windows. The placement could be very obvious, or the mittens can be discretely incorporated in existing window displays.

To make it as easy as possible, the City will provide participating businesses with a set of written instructions explaining how the contest works. The instructions can be shared with customers. Details are also available on the City of St. John’s website.

Entries are submitted directly to the City of St. John’s. They will take care of selecting a winner and distributing the prize. 

To participate, business owners can email Carolyn Cook ccook@stjohns.ca, let her know how many mitten cut-outs (or window clings) you would like, then place the mittens in your window display. It is as easy as that, and it is free to participate.

Deadline for mitten orders is Friday, February 6. The mittens and instructions delivered shortly after the deadline.

We hope to see as many participate as possible as this is a great way to get people out and about walking through Downtown.  Happy Winter !
