Thrive’s Downtown Street Outreach Program has been in place since securing funding through the City of St. John’s in April 2024.

The program consists of having 2 full-time outreach workers walking through the downtown, engaging and building relationships with street-involved people. The walks generally take place from 10am – 12pm and 1pm – 3pm, Mondays through Thursdays, with a walk from 2pm – 4pm on Fridays. We also have a volunteer led walk from 5:30pm to 7:30pm on Thursday evenings.

During these walks, the outreach workers are offering survival supplies to the participants we encounter, safely disposing of discarded needles, as well as checking in with businesses in the downtown core to educate about our services and offer naloxone training. The team can also respond if there are situations that arise that could benefit from de-escalation and the provision of supports. The contact number to reach the outreach team is 709-351-1070.

As part of the Downtown Street Outreach program, Thrive is conducting a survey with business owners, commercial property owners and employees in the Downtown St. John’s Business Commission area about the program to date. This information will be used to help Thrive the program over the next several months.
